The S&P U.S. Treasury Bond 1-3 Year Index is designed to measure the performance of U.S. Treasury bonds maturing in 1 to 3 years. The official name of this index is "Yield on U.S. Treasury Security Adjusted to a Constant Maturity of One Year" (or 6 months, or 2 years, etc.). Confusion can arise when lenders use the term "One Year Treasury Bill"; the 52-week bill is a completely different index, and rarely used on ARMs. What it means: An index published by the Federal Reserve Board based on the average yield of a range of Treasury securities, all adjusted to the equivalent of a one-year maturity. Yields on Treasury securities at constant maturity are determined by the U.S. Treasury from the daily yield curve.
